Clearly, when Airbus Helicopters needed a new office fit-out in the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in Dublin, they looked for work of a quality which would reflect their status as a leading aviation institution and would be in keeping with their prestigious location. The IFSC, which was set up by the Irish Government with EU approval in 1987, is recognised across the world as a leading location for a wide range of internationally traded financial services.
Airbus turned to the project management company Smythe Farrell Associates, who project-managed the refit, and worked with Doyle Interior Systems on the design and construction of the internal partition system.
The design by Smythe Farrell required the stripping out of the existing office layout, and the supply and fitting of double-glazed demountable glass cubicles, followed by painting and decoration.
Doyle, in turn, called on their well-established partners Glass Solutions for the supply of the double-glazed panels, for which the specification was a sound rating of 43dB – the high standard of soundproofing which would be essential to create a comfortable and secure environment for the transaction of Airbus’s confidential business.
The partitions chosen were Micra II frameless double-glazed panels with an acoustic rating of 42dB – a substantial improvement on the specification, bearing in mind that the decibel scale is logarithmic. The demountable design of these partitions ensures that the layout can easily be adapted in response to changing requirements.
The project also required the supply and fitting of graphic manifestation to the glass cubicles, in compliance with European Health and Safety Regulations; the result is a pleasing combination of safety and privacy, without compromise to the light and airy feel of the offices.
